Kaukau Challenge 1st November 2009
On Sunday 1st November, Khandallah School is hosting a fun run/walk up Mount Kaukau followed by a family gala in the school grounds. The run/walk will take up to an hour and a half before returning to the school to join families and friends to enjoy an action packed family gala with something for everyone from 9:00 till 2:00. Please note that the Kaukau Challenge can be completed as either a run or a walk. We welcome everyone to complete the event at their own pace.
This is the 4th year for the Kaukau Challenge with around 500 people entering each year. This year we aim to be even bigger than previous years and would like to make the Kaukau Challenge a day to be remembered and a regular annual event in the Wellington calendar.
The Event
The event is over a distance of 5km beginning on the bottom field of Khandallah School at the Clark Street access. The route will be down Clark Street, up Box Hill, into Woodmancote Road, an ascent via the Northern Ridge track and descent toward Simla Crescent cutting across to the top of Clark Street and finishing back at the Khandallah School bottom field. The route will be well signposted on the day. The track is narrow in parts and does have some large steps in the ascent. It is therefore not suitable for buggies.
Entrants will not be timed individually but we had time displays available for challengers to time themselves.
